Privacy Policy

Effective date: January 1, 1970

Our approach

tchrly is built on a simple idea: teachers should have free, useful tools that work instantly and respect their privacy. The entire app runs in your web browser. We do not require an account, and we do not upload the content you type into our tools.

What we collect from you

We do not collect or store anything you enter into tchrly on our servers. Worksheets, word lists, grades, seating charts, student names, and documents are generated and used entirely on your device.

The only information that reaches us is what you choose to send voluntarily, such as a feedback email or a tip through Stripe. In those cases, the information you provide is used only for that purpose.

How your work is saved

To be helpful, tchrly saves your inputs and settings locally on your device using a browser feature called localStorage. This means your work persists between visits, but it never leaves your computer, tablet, or phone. No one else can see it, including us.

You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser’s site data or storage for tchrly.com.

Saved rosters

My Rosters lets you save class lists — a class label and student display names — so you can reuse them across tools such as the Random Student Picker, Group Maker and Seating Chart Maker. Saved rosters are written to your browser’s localStorage and stay on that device. They are never uploaded to tchrly, never sent to analytics, and never attached to feedback you send us.

Rosters hold nothing beyond the class name and the names you type. There is no field for grades, IEP or medical information, behavior notes, contact details, student IDs, birthdates or demographics — it is a convenience feature, not a student records system.

Clearing your browser or site data may remove saved rosters. You can export a roster, or all of them, as a JSON file: the file is generated in your browser and saved to your device, and importing one reads it in your browser too. Deleting a roster, or choosing Delete all saved rosters, removes it from that browser only.

Classroom Noise Meter and microphone

The Classroom Noise Meter uses your device’s microphone through the Web Audio API to measure the sound level in your classroom. The audio is processed in real time, entirely within your browser. We do not record, store, or transmit the microphone audio to our servers or anywhere else.

The meter converts the live volume into a decibel estimate and visual feedback, such as a gauge or bouncing balls. If you set a threshold, the tool can play a gentle chime when the room gets too loud. You can mute or disable the microphone at any time, and your browser will only allow microphone access after you explicitly grant permission.

Cookies and analytics

We collect simple, anonymous analytics about page views and how people move around the site. This helps us understand which tools are useful and where we should improve. It is not tied to your identity, and we do not use it to track you across other websites or build a profile about you.

tchrly does not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party trackers that follow you around the web.

Tips and Stripe

If you choose to leave a tip, the payment is processed by Stripe. Stripe handles the transaction on its own secure checkout page and will collect only the information needed to complete the payment, such as your card details and email address. We do not store or have access to your payment information. Stripe’s privacy practices are described in Stripe’s Privacy Policy.

Children and schools

tchrly is intended for teachers and adult educators. We do not knowingly collect personal information from students or children under 13. Because we do not require accounts or collect student information, teachers can use tchrly in the classroom without worrying about student data being uploaded.

Data retention

We do not retain your work or inputs on our servers. Anything saved in your browser’s localStorage remains there until you delete it or clear your browser data. Feedback emails are kept only as long as needed to respond to or act on your message.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as tchrly grows. If we make meaningful changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of tchrly after changes means you accept the revised policy.
