Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about tchrly, how it works, and how you can help it grow.
Is tchrly really free?
Yes. Every tool on tchrly is free to use. There are no subscriptions, no ads, and no paywalls. If you find it useful, you can leave a tip through the Tip jar to help keep it that way.
Do I need to create an account?
No. tchrly works without accounts or logins. You can open any tool and start using it immediately.
Is anything I type uploaded to your servers?
No. All the content you enter stays in your browser on your own device. Nothing is uploaded to tchrly's servers, so your student names, grades, and documents stay private.
Can I use tchrly on my phone or tablet?
Yes. Every tool is designed to work in a mobile browser. The printable previews are scaled to a standard 8.5" x 11" sheet so they still print cleanly from any device.
How do I print a worksheet?
Most tools have a Print PDF button that opens the browser print dialog. The preview on the page is already sized for a single letter page, so what you see is what prints.
Can I change the font on what I print?
Yes. Tools that make printable material have a Font setting with four choices: the default, OpenDyslexic, Comic Relief and Noto Serif. OpenDyslexic has weighted letter shapes that some readers find easier to tell apart, Comic Relief is a friendly informal face for younger classes, and Noto Serif is a book-like serif for reading material and formal handouts. It applies to the worksheet, not to tchrly's own pages, and your choice is remembered on this device and carries across every tool. The word search and crossword grids stay in the standard font so the squares keep lining up.
Why are some tools marked 'Coming soon'?
A few tools are listed on the Tools page so you can see what is planned, but they are not ready for use yet. They are grayed out and cannot be opened until they are finished.
Can I save my work and come back later?
Yes. Most tools keep your work on your own device using your browser's local storage. That is a deliberate choice: you get instant access with no account, no password, and no student data leaving your classroom. Just remember that clearing your browser data will clear it too, so print or export anything you want to keep long-term.
Can I save my class list and reuse it?
Yes. My Rosters lets you paste a class list once, name it, and pick it again in the Random Student Picker, Group Maker and Seating Chart Maker. Saved rosters stay on your device — they are never uploaded — so your class information stays private. Clearing your browser data may remove them, so export a JSON backup if you want to keep a copy or move a roster to another device.
What is the difference between saving a roster in the browser and exporting a file?
Saving in the browser is the fast, private default: tchrly keeps the roster on your device so it can fill it into tools automatically, with no cloud or login in between. Exporting creates a small JSON file on your device that you own, keep, and move wherever you like. Both are local-first by design; nothing in either case is uploaded to tchrly's servers.
How do saved quiz games and CSV files work?
The Quiz Board Maker saves your game on your own device so you can come back and play or edit it later. No cloud account is needed, and no student answers or questions reach tchrly's servers. You can also export a CSV file you can open in Excel or Google Sheets, edit there, and import back into tchrly. The CSV is just a plain table with columns for Category, Question, Answer, and Points.
I found a bug or have a feature idea. How do I tell you?
Use the Send feedback button or link anywhere on the site. Feedback from real classrooms is what shapes the tchrly roadmap.
Does the Classroom Noise Meter record my class?
No. The noise meter uses your device's microphone to measure volume in real time, but it does not record, store, or transmit any audio. It only reads a live loudness level.
Which browser works best?
tchrly works in any modern browser. Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Firefox all handle the print and export features well. For the best PDF output, make sure your browser is up to date.
